Do you remember the concept of one action causing a set of
opposite reactions? As if someone flicked one of the domino pieces and now all
the ones around it are tumbling down in its wake. This is what my day felt like
today.
I tossed and turned last night for what seemed like hours. In
the end I slept a total of 3 hours. I had to be up at 5am to get to a “work-related”
seminar, so sleeping in a bit was not going to happen. After my shower I went
into my kitchen to brew some coffee and prep my lunch. I was greeted by a bunch
of flying ants coming out from under the sink. By the time I finished I was
running behind.
At work the harder I tried to focus and get a task done, the
harder it was to even think clearly. At that point I knew it was going to be a “second
cup of coffee” kind of day. I’m lucky that there is a Starbucks 8 minutes from
work. However, today it seemed to take twice as long. By the time I got back to
the office I had to “wolf” down my peanut butter sandwich and half a salad.
Mother’s Day weekend celebrations for my family start on
Friday night, so I planned to do all the grocery shopping after work. It seemed
that every person I came into contact with from work, to Trader Joes, to
Walmart, and in traffic was testing my patience. By the time I was headed
toward the back roads of Andover to get to Whole Foods, I was grumbling to
myself. Then I looked around at the beautiful trees lining the streets and the
calm, grey sky. All of a sudden I started to calm down. I cranked up my new tunes, and relaxed in the
driver seat.
That one positive thought started its own domino effect. All
the people at Whole Foods were pleasant and smiling, there were green lights
all down the main road, and at home my neighbor greeted me with a funny story.
With very little time this evening, I popped an Amy’s pizza
in the oven.
So delicious! Enjoy your night!
