When my alarm went off this morning it was still dark out, another
rainy day with cloud cover. Even though the sun rises on my bedroom’s side of
the building and I wake up feeling like I’m in an oven, I do miss waking up to
a sun-filled day. It’s certainly easier to walk when it’s not raining, but I’m
going to take advantage of the rain while it’s here. That means picking a new
book to read, since I finished the other one.
I go to the Newburyport Literary Festival every year since I
moved to the north shore. This year there was a session by two Foodie writers.
I of course bought both books for each of the authors to sign. I decided to
start with Season
to Taste: How I lost my Sense of Smell and Found my Way by Molly Birnbaum.
I read the introduction and it caught my eye since it was about her start to
become a chef. I have been looking into that career myself in the last few
months. The other one was by T. Susan Chang called A
Spoonful of Promises: Stories & Recipes from a Well-Tempered Table. The
story centers around her food memories. I am very eager to read this one as
well. I really like that food is connected with our memories. Everyone can
relate to that idea because every holiday or get together, the main guest that
shows up to the party is FOOD!
So with my new book in hand and the lunch hour begun, I
grabbed my packed lunch. For this chilly, rainy afternoon I enjoyed a bowl of
Amy’s Lentil Soup, an orange, and almonds for a snack. I really like Amy’s
brand food because it caters to Vegetarians and Vegans. I used to hate canned
soup. To me they tasted like the can it came in and way too salty. Amy’s brand food products always taste light
and healthy. Of course all organic food tastes yummy despite the small dent it
makes in the wallet, but it is totally worth it! You would be surprised the
organic healthy brands you can find even at a regular supermarket such as
Market Basket (which does carry Amy’s brand soup).
Since I was in a rush this morning I went for a walk in the
evening time. This time I knew to grab my umbrella. I know the rain can make us
grumble at times, but the birds seem to be enjoying it. They sang to each other
while I walked my usual route and I found the ducks that live in the complex bathing
in the rain.
My walk energized me so I whipped up a pasta dish for Katie,
she came in the door looking exhausted from her day. Pasta makes
everything better! For myself I was in the mood for lighter fare. So I made
breakfast for dinner.
I made Oatmeal with cinnamon and agave nectar and a green
smoothie. The smoothie has soymilk, strawberries (for fiber) and Kale.
Off to
enjoy the evening with my sister!
