Yesterday was a long day so I never got to post a blog.
Lucky for you though because today there will be two entries.
I already knew a head of time that the food on the Provincetown
II boat would not be vegetarian friendly nor would there be a healthy
alternative, so I packed a lunch to eat on the ride into Boston. I made a
peanut butter sandwich and cut up a bunch of veggies into sticks. On the boat I
stuck with drinking Heinekens because I was drinking with colleagues, not
whooping it up with my family. I was also the “DD,” (designated driver) so I
had to keep my wits about me. The food they spread out on the table near the
bar were your typical bar food options: fried spanakopita, wraps filled with meat
or seafood drowning in a mayonnaise mixture, chips and salsa, and non-organic
cheese pizza. I went with a small piece of cheese pizza because it was the only
vegetarian option, besides the chips and salsa. If I were vegan I would not be
able to eat anything. The food was not really filling and just kind of sat in
your stomach. I wondered how difficult it would have been for them to put out
sandwiches on wholegrain rolls and fill them with vegetables or offer a green
salad. It was the kind of food that makes your brain think, “I’m still hungry.”
I love riding on a boat. The waves were choppy as we left
the harbor and the boat rocked back and forth more forcefully than I would have
expected for the size boat we were on. It was a little bit smaller than your
typical whale watching boat. This makes some people nervous, but I thought it
was fun! I stood in the middle and spread my legs a little bit trying to stay
upright, riding the waves like I was on a surfboard.
I took a few pictures with my camera. We went by Logan
Airport and watched the planes take off to exotic locations like Madagascar or
Newark, New Jersey.
Boston Skyline…feels like home
They hired a DJ who played a variety of music and the
classics like Michael Jackson’s Thriller, which a colleague knew all the steps
to! Watching other people dance was definitely interesting. There was one woman
who knew how to salsa, which made me excited to try. I would love to take a
salsa class. Katie and I always talk about taking one together, so we’ll definitely
have to look into it when she comes back.
After the boat ride, I joined a group of others and we
ventured into the city to find a Mexican restaurant in Faneuil Hall called Mija
Cantina and Tequila bar. We got a little lost but it was an adventure, which
made it fun. They had vegetarian options, which I got really excited about! Not
many restaurants have vegetarian options. I tried the zucchini and peppers taco
which was good but definitely lacked some seasoning. If they had added more
seasoning and slow roasted it, it would have developed a deeper flavor. Then I
tried the Grilled Mushroom, Roasted Red Peppers, and Black Bean taco on a flour
tortilla which was amazing! The charred flavor from the grill on the vegetables
and the hearty taste of black beans was a great pairing. They had a special
that night, $3 margaritas, house blend. They were not the best margaritas, it
was bland tasting. The best margaritas and Mexican food I’ve ever had were at a
restaurant in Newburyport called Agave.
I recommend visiting this place because it’s absolutely worth the trip. The
second best is a little whole in the wall in Andover called Casablanca. Their Chili Verde
sauce is out of this world, thanks to the little touch of the tomatillo.
We took a taxi back to the parking garage and we went our separate ways out of
the city. I brought my friend from work home to Billerica
and traveled further north to my apartment. The air was crisp and cooling off.
I was sweaty and smelly from the sun and the trek around the city, so I took a quick, cold
shower that was refreshing and uplifting. I settled on the couch and ended my
night with a cup of tea and a mango pluot.
My mum's here already, trying to get my attention and my brother is on his way to help Katie with her last minute trip prep so I'm signing off for now. See you here later!
